Zurich West, Downtown & North, 7 May 2010

We often know our own little town and still less do we know about the cities in our neighborhood. It also happens the Bernese students and instructors. Therefore, the Group introduced economic geography at the University of Bern on 7 May, a trip to Zurich. The excursion was part of the Proseminar "Entrepreneurship and Economic Geography" instead. We visited the districts of Zurich West, downtown and north respectively Oerlikon.

The excursion began with a tour of the ch distr. / hous.cplx il Züri West. This district he is currently in a transitional phase and represents the transformation a e s former industrial area into a new modern city district. Today, the neighborhood through the reuse marked by industrial buildings and it offers attractive accommodation, restaurants, theaters, clubs and bars as well as jobs in new industries.

In Zurich West is also the so-called Techno Park located. De r Techno Park is an incubator for early stage companies at its disposal eht, thus promoting the formation dynamics in the region. A representative of the Techno Park introduced us to the history and the organization and operation of technology parks. Following d aran it was two young GE company before and we could see first hand what it takes to get a so-called entrepreneur or entrepreneurs to be successful.

After our lunch in the cafeteria of the Technopa rk s lead our way through the city of Zurich to Zurich North. This rapid change is reflected in a strong dominance of very modern housing developments, coupled with some futuristic-designed parks, which form a bridge to the past .

In my great south-west-outback-tour, I was full of desert sand and gold dust in the home of Susan and Paul, and after a really comfortable sleeping bed in a giant, finally, the next could travel to be planned, the longest, will I probably ever but we first had to pick up Ellie from the roadhouse, not at the wanted to go away and only by combining forces, we were able to pull out of the roadhouse ^ ^





The next morning was first May To maintain the old tradition, we took a "wagon" and drove off after Frementle (one must say, I was by the work in a real kojonup Frementle have become fan, so no football, but Australian football!) We we met with Katha, which then later became one of us (Aussie Aussie oi oi oi ^ ^). Unfortunately, in the city and strict ban on alcohol in the parks and so we had to drink never can. next morning we packed the car (it was full up to here ^ ^), bought a few things diving, frementle t-shirt and then we went to the katha, then got a great speeding ticket and then we went at last los Pinecles direction.

We arrived at sunset at the Pinecles soon before. Then we took the tent in the middle of the parking space, and began at once with our housewarming party. But the night was really hard, the temperatures were quite low, I had to wear, still Kalgoorie a sweater. The next morning we drove the Pineclesway, it was really quite amazing that 1 km to the sea ne desert with all these Hinkelsteinaehnlichen rocks. But the area was not so big and there was nothing else to see, so we went geralton then further direction. 30 km before geralton great little place was the port Denis, a fishing village with a really nice beach. The looked so inviting to us, we wanted to stay there sodas. So we built a tent on the outskirts of the city and on a couple of hours later we had to evacuate the area again, because a ranger caught us and so we drove 20 km to a beautiful bay. There it was about as cold night and was isolated from the wind so bad "deals" that we had to get up early in order to be able to set up the tent elsewhere.

The next morning was announced geralton, the last big town up to Karratha or Broome (~ 1800km). There, we ate the last time fast food for a while and then we left this town again, to be on time at the shark bay (well ran towards the cooler dorhin 2 times and that is why we hot properties just after it Northam). In northam we did right great pictures of the sunset and we could shower once again. Then we searched near the city for a place to sleep, but it was more difficult than expected. In the end we found a pistol club, where we slept just under the canopy (that of course had to be celebrated too:-D)

After a short night we went the direction of Coral Bay. There we paid for the first time for accommodation in a caravan park ( there was the fridges ^ ^) where we stayed 2 days, where we met a German senior citizens group that wanted to even have to see Australia and celebrated there with other backpackers. But we had to continue exmorth further into the north.

Once in Exmorth we slept again 30 km away from the road, were also re-awakened in the morning of so nem nice ranger and asked to us from the field. Well then we had a little bit money to spend on a caravan park. We stayed 2 nights. On the first day we drove to Cape Range NP, a nice diving snorkeling paradise and. There was the turquoise beach ran, there 2 flow against each other and that is a little dangerous when you have too much goes out, for the current first go along the beach, which is very relaxing because you simply have to drift, but the two together and lead to more open and you have to swim really really fast, so that counts against the. But there was a really nice life, I saw rays, fish a huge number of different sized and colored. Then we went to the oyster bay, there was the water, perhaps 20-50 cm deep, but under water were close oyster fish, scallops and as always a few rays. I just never wanted out of there, but we had a date with our baker, who always in the evening is very very cheap and had his back Besides others, we again had to sleep a bit on what we are unfortunately not have done, because we met many German there, which we have celebrated a little ^ ^. The next day it was booked diving whale shark. With an empty stomach (at such trips there is always all for nothing, so we just have not eaten ^ ^) we went ahead, we would almost get into another bus, because every day more buses and drove several ships to the whale sharks. arrived there was only once a really good breakfast and then went to the gay los ride (well, it was rather too rough sea for me was really seasick ^ ^) First, we could swim in the lagoon and there we have the same our great underwater camera tried. We were tired, but we wanted to get away from the tourist city. Next was just a stopping place, but right out front, my left front tire got a hole and got air. So we slept in the vicinity of the highway behind 4 road trains with houses on the loading area. Next morning had to intervene to be changed and then the slightly smaller spare tire be mounted, then drove in the direction Karratha. Once there we went to mc donalds for the first time, finally fast food:-D

there I looked to mature, but there were mega expensive so we went to the caravan park betrueckt. There we met again and berbel ula and then we had something Fröhlig. The next morning we watched a bit of the environment, but there was really not much to look at what we could. I gave the car from time to durchzuchecken it. Then we went a little dreisst, the visitor center, sleep to there. jaa because we were punished, but not by rangers or by the owners, but from the lawn sprinkler ^ ^

The good was that the couple had a freight company and they offered us jobs for 15 after tax, of course it was damn good, so we agreed and wanted to celebrate the joy even further, but then came one of her staff and offered us to sleep with him on the boat. We agreed and then we went out into the sea to boot. We got there first time eating a really good and then we could sleep in the cabin. the next morning was really rough again see, but I was able to handle it ^ ^

We then drove back again and then we went to celebrate the day, eat fish and chips. The next day we went with the work going on, but actually we were not as fit (what happens when one sleeps on the beach ^ ^). we had to scrub the first time the ship because we needed to 4 a day. diemal but had we do not sleep on the beach, we should sleep in the cabin of a large freight. There, everyone had his own bed, a fridge and airconditioner old ship material, I immediately took a look. The freighter was a 1959-built German ship and was sold here meet naja just so the info ^ ^

then we drove through the city almost as far as Broome, the most expensive in Australia (or in the universe ^ ^) where we could again take care to mc and then we had to get back to a sleeping space. we did it then, 4 days, without paying to get into a campsite. in the next few days we were mostly cable beach and town beach. Cable Beach was the most beautiful beach in Australia to be, but I did not eingentlich Sun there you could, as we the campsite had, well the last day of elli and leave thilo celebrate on the beach and sleep. Just on 26 May, they started a journey then, it was a pretty sad and now have to be put hein katha and I alone survive. But the very next day we got Christina to know Benni and Alex, all of which also had cars and wanted to continue. then we left still antanzen several people, as riders and we took ne German (Lydia) and French with NEN (max) and then went off to new adventures .. the trip from Broome to darvin

My Snowboard Is Spliting

Kojonup - Esperence - Kalgoorie-Boulder - Wave Rock - Perth

Approximately one week before my resignation, I made my thoughts for many around the last 1-2 months. I am drawn back out into the world, well out from the small village of nowhere. I had the best areas in the south coast has not seen and I wanted one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia to see (Esperence and environment) and the largest gold mines in Australia and perhaps in the world.
But because I do not so much time and too much money, I'd have them travel back down in record time and won all seen what I wanted. But it started only a little strange:
the day before I got with my English colleagues for the first time celebrated properly and so I could drive off until noon and I had more than 600 km to Esperence. I was doing only a stop in Albany, where I wanted to look at the great ANZAC parade, but I unfortunately missed shame, and the u-boats were gone again.
Well I drove until it is getting dark and still had 100 km ride (one must say, it's almost winter again and by 5 clock the sun goes down and by 6 it is dark, not like in Germany, it is damn dark and even with the high beam does not see much). Then I had to eat a make (well my pots and pans were all in perth, so I had to fry sausages, a little improvising ^ ^). Then I wanted the track to create Esperence, but I was surprised by a herd kanguroos (yeah that's the problem when the edge of a national park must go along). I just managed it, which is not my car kanguroo touched, I was REALLY lucky and so I drove to the next inflection, and slept for a few hours (in the car! no desire to build a tent at night ^ ^)
But this night was kind of cold, I slept with socks, long pants, t-shirt, sweater, sleeping bag, blanket, towel and still I froze. It's really incredible that during the day as straight to the 30, and in the night so to 0
went to this incredibly good night I finally got to intoxicate me Esperence and read from the enchanting beaches and incredibly clear and tuerkiesblauen sea. I drove my car from beach to beach and took photo `s. You think fast, there are no better beaches, but then comes the next and then the next, it's really incredible. Then I came
over at Pink Lake, which was no longer pink, it's just a salt lake which, if it is properly dry, get ne pink color, unfortunately I was there too late, but one can not always have everything ^ ^
Because I had but little time, I went to Cape le Grand National Park, which, as I think, one of the best NP. I went only once to the highest mountain (Frenchman Peak) and I mounted then flops with my flip (the people were amazed that I was wearing no hiking boots, for he was mountain a bit steep, but I had no problems, the "small to climb "^ ^) and the mountain had been made correctly ne tremendous views of the bay and beaches and throughout the NP. I also met a few backpackers from Holland, a group from Germany, which I then got Later in the Lucky Bay seen again. There was the camp and there I slept a little better than before, but I was back by 5 clock up early, for there the sun rose and there was sleep in the car-eig impossible. Then I made the Baytour it takes for you eig 4-5 hours in 2, because, as I said before, I've no time ^ ^
After I left the park and was a bit mad in Esperence until I this the beautiful city had zutrehen back for. After that I never saw the sea (well only for 3 days), because now we went back into the Outback.

I was much too late to go and so it was dark again, I threw boring, no one is on the road and behind every Kürvers kanguroos could be. But I was not tired and wanted to continue, so I just waited until a great Jeep has overtaken me and I'm there with little distance behind down, because the Australians for not bremmsen Kanguroos. So I came up quickly after kalgoorie, but it was 10 clock and so I slept on nem parking, of course, back in the car.
The next morning we finally after Kalgoorie-Boulder. Ne week before there was a small earthquake that destroyed a couple of hotels but what was quite surprising, no one in the gold, copper and Zinnmienen was killed live. I ran at 6 clock closing by Kalgoorie, made great photo's and then I looked at the Super Pit, the largest gold mine in Australia. There, one could look down from the mountain, it was just huge. Then I also grabbed the gold fever and I wanted to absolutely pure, so I went to the mines House of Fame and made a tour of ne-old gold mine. We went first look at the whole working clothes and sat down helmet and lamp, and then we went from under the earth (the helmet I really needed, I'm just not for sone miners built ^ ^) We went for the first time at level 1, we had to walk down da ne ne eternity stairs and it got really dark. The sound was also really scary there under the earth. This expression has been built in the 40s and closed in the 50 because the gold was just too low down and the poop cost more as the dig. And because I've booked the extra tour, we drove another 50 meters down in the 2nd bay, where I'm really quite often in the head and cut it in level 2 was much hotter than the top and with these clothes you sweat too much. After this breathtaking tour I did ne make outback tours, but was discouraged because I had no kanguroo protective, and I drove alone, so I was only a few abandoned sites and then I went back to ride as much as possible until there was dark.

I was only 300 km again and I fell asleep again on nem parking. Then I woke up at 5 and then I had to go too fast because I wanted to look at the Wave Rock, the 500 km were removed in the morning, because they should reflect that great (had nothing else better to do so ^ ^) I made it real, to arrive on time, but I was almost afraid that this will stop automatically, because I did not want to buy petrol so expensive, what would have cost me almost as much time as I had almost no petrol in the tank when I was at Wave the rocks came. There I saw this huge wave rock, just incredible, but that was all I thought, there is only to be seen, but it was damn nice already.
Then I went back "home" to Perth, where I was the Susan and Paul back in their nice house "his welcome. There I was able to sleep well in bed and I continue to prepare for the next road trip, the trip from west to east.
